What is iTunes U?
iTunes U gives educators an easy way to design complete courses with audio, video, and other content and distribute them through the iTunes U app. How iTunes U can be utilized: Several teachers at Calhoun have created courses in iTunes U in order to share content with their students. Although students cannot access the course via the school computers, students can view the course content using apple devices such as iPhones and iPads in school using the BMGuest login. They can also utilize the courses from home using iTunes. Check out current Bellmore-Merrick Courses: To access the Bellmore Merrick iTunes U homepage simple open iTunes, click iTunes U at the top of the page, then select k-12 on the righthand side of the page, find Bellmore Merrick School District and the course offerings will appear. Sandy Sardo is our school administrator for iTunes U. The following information is a guide from Sandy on how to get started with iTunes U. How to create a course on iTunes U-
Go to https://itunesu.itunes.apple.com/coursemanager/ to access the Course Manager. The first time you log in, you will be asked to create an Instructor Profile. After that, you will be able to create your first course. Because the courses from all 5 schools (and MAP) will be available on the main district page, to make it easier for students to find your course, please name it in the following way: Algebra 1: Sanford H. Calhoun HS English 8: Grand Ave. MS Physics AP: John F. Kennedy HS Global History: Wellington C. Mepham HS Chorus 7: Grand Ave. MS Geometry: Meadowbrook Alternative Program In other words, SUBJECT: FULL NAME OF SCHOOL There are detailed instructions on Course Creation and Uploading Content on the links on the right side of the Course Manager. 4. Here's the important part. Once you have created your Course, it will appear in your Course Manager. Click on the Course title to get to the "Info" page. Near the top is a button that looks like a gear. Click on it, and click the link "Submit Course to iTunes Catalog". That gives the administrators permission to add your course to the BMCHSD iTunes U Page. 5. Last part- Click the Graduation Cap to get you back to the Course Manager. Roll over your course so that the "Share" button appears. Click on the Share button, copy that web address, and email it to [email protected], so that the course can be added to the BMCHSD iTunes U Page. A couple of things to keep in mind: - This is still all brand new, and there are plenty of bugs as Apple updates the system. - It takes an eternity (as of this writing, upwards of an entire day) for new and updated courses to propagate thru the iTunes universe. - For some reason, web links that are uploaded to Course Materials do not show on the Mac/PC version of the Course Page, only on the iPad version. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future update. |
